An owner's stable is an establishment designed to house the owner's horses on a boarding or half-board basis. The manager of an owner's stable does not need any special qualifications as he does not give lessons.
A sport stable will also include facilities for training horses for various equestrian competitions.
In the case of a boarding stable, the owner pays the total cost of the horse. In the case of half-board, the owner makes his horse available to other people for a few days a week in exchange for the payment of a part of the costs related to the maintenance of the horse. Half-board offers several advantages for the owner: reduction of costs, reduction of the time to devote to the horse, ... But also for the person benefiting from half-board: less expensive than the purchase and maintenance of a horse in full ownership, access to more qualitative horses, possibility of stopping, access to the stable's infrastructures, ...
The boarding of horses consists of ensuring the maintenance of the litter, the feeding and the supervision of the animals at grass or in the paddock. It should be noted that the sole purpose of boarding animals is not considered as breeding and is not an agricultural activity.
An owner's stable is nevertheless subject to various regulations:
