Campsites are classified in France from 1 to 5 stars and this classification is valid for 5 years. In this classification, the campsites are listed in :
- Seasonal" site, 2 months per year, capacity of 120 pitches and surface area of 1.5 hectares
- Natural area: open for up to 6 months a year, maximum capacity of 25 pitches and area of 1 hectare
- Tourist campsites classified from 1 to 5 stars (more than half of the pitches are for overnight, weekly or monthly rental) and leisure campsites classified from 1 to 5 stars (more than half of the pitches are for more than one month's occupation)
- Residential Leisure Park (PRL) classified from 1 to 5 stars
- Camping à la ferme or rural camping
